Elkford
Elkford with a population of 2,463 (including surround Regional District Area H) is one of the most remote communities in the Kootenay Rockies, and the gateway to two of BC’s pristine provincial parks. People come here for this proximity to raw wilderness, for the wildlife and for the rugged beauty of the Canadian Rockies. Founded in 1970, the community owes its existence to coal mining, which had been practised in the Elk Valley since the late 1800s.
