Description: As part of the State of the Basin and other applied research projects, the RDI compiles and maintains an extensive suite of datasets specific to the Columbia Basin-Boundary region. Data is stored in many forms, including databases, geospatial shapefiles, graphs, tables and reports. The RDI can provide local organizations access to much of this data in order to assist with planning, project proposals, and other activities that require informed decisions. Following your submission of a request for support, an RDI researcher will contact you to establish the most appropriate information-sharing strategy. We will either direct you to relevant, publically-accessible data sources, or share information directly. Review datasets currently housed at the RDI: RDI Data Sets Library (April 2016).
Eligible organizations: Non-profit organizations, community initiatives, governments
Timeframe: Intake of data and information requests is ongoing. No application deadlines apply, though the extent of support the RDI is able to offer may be limited by staff schedules. The RDI will endeavour to contact you within 2 weeks of receiving your request, and will work with the timeline of your project to help you access relevant information.
Fees: The RDI’s services are offered to eligible organizations at no charge. However, should the request require the involvement of the Selkirk Geospatial Research Centre, which houses many of the RDI’s geospatial datasets, service fees may apply.
Other important information: Much of the data the RDI manages is available for download from the Digital Basin. Before submitting a request to the RDI, please check if the data you require access to is available through this tool.
