New Denver

New Denver (population of 505, though the total population of the Slocan Valley (including New Denver, Silverton and Slocan and Regional District of Central Kootenay) totals 5,275) is located on Highway 6 on the eastern shore of the Slocan Lake, south of New Denver. Founded in 1892 and incorporated January 12, 1929, New Denver’s history includes a Japanese-Canadian internment camp shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 (Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre).
