Known as “Canada’s Smallest City”, Greenwood is located in the southern Monashee Mountains between the Okanagan Valley and Kootenay Rockies region. Incorporated July 12, 1897, Greenwood currently has a population of 705 (though the total population of the Boundary Country (including Grand Forks, Greenwood and Midway and Regional District Kootenay Boundary Areas C, D and E) totals 11,915). A self-guided “Heritage Walk” through the charming downtown of Greenwood will reveal details 31 historic buildings and structures, its mining boom to bust town in 1918 and details of its wartime Japanese-Canadian internment camp in 1942. The Oscar-nominated movie, “Snow Falling on Cedars” was filmed in Greenwood.
