The RDI engages in social innovation research related to a diverse array of economic, environmental, social, and cultural topics relevant to the Columbia Basin and Boundary regions. State of the Basin
The State of the Basin program monitors and reports on indicators of economic, social, environmental and cultural well-being in the Basin-Boundary region.
Climate Adaptation
The RDI's portfolio of climate adaptation research projects supports Basin-Boundary communities to understand their level of adaptation and take action to address vulnerabilities.
Building Local Government Capacity for Rural Economic Development
This project aims to help Columbia Basin and Boundary local governments grow their capacity for economic development with a focus on three themes: business attraction, land development, and economic resilience.
Columbia Basin Climate Source
Columbia Basin Climate Source--a partnership between Columbia Basin Trust, the RDI and the Selkirk Geospatial Research Centre--is a one-stop shop for climate change information relevant to Columbia Basin-Boundary communities.
Rural Homelessness and COVID-19
This project mobilizes college-based expertise and resources to support the West Kootenay social service sector to understand and address the needs of people experiencing homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Internships
The RDI supports students to undertake diverse internships in the field of rural development. Internships are undertaken in partnership with businesses, non-profits, and government agencies.
