Tri-Cities to receive a $40,000 grant to implement Smart Kootenays Mobility Platform

The communities of Nelson, Castlegar, Rossland and Trail, in partnership  Communities Futures, Selkirk College and local technology entrepreneurs worked collaboratively to apply for the BC Smart Communities Pilot funding to develop and test a mobility platform that will provide area residents with information about road safety, closures, wait times and natural disasters. The platform will help people make smart transportation decisions, resulting in safe and efficient travel that decreases accidents and reduces pollutants.

Infrastructure and basic services are an important part of every community across the Columbia Basin-Boundary region, as well as across the country, providing the foundation upon which we build our lives and economy. While infrastructure is often thought of as physical systems (e.g., roads, buildings), how infrastructure is defined is increasingly inclusive of services (e.g., health, education). Investments in infrastructure and services contribute to our economy, as well as enhance quality of life.
