Located above the Columbia River east of Trail, the Village of Montrose was incorporated June 22, 1956. Its residents are primarily made up of workers and retirees of nearby Teck, the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, Fortis BC, Wal-Mart and other local businesses. Seven different species of hummingbirds have been recorded in the area and Montrose is known for the excellent quality of its drinking water, winning silver medals in 2008 and 2009 Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Competition.
